Ingredients: 1/2 Cup green gram dal, 3 cups water, 2 tsps ghee, 1 tsp cumin seeds, 1 onion, 5 garlic cloves, small piece ginger, 2 tomatoes, 1 tsp chilli powder, half tsp garam masala powder, half tsp turmeric powder, salt to taste and few coriander leaves for garnishing.
Method: Cook daal in 3 cups of water. Prepare seasoning in a frying pan, heat ghee, put cumin seeds and finely chopped onion and fry for 2 minutes. Add chopped ginger garlic and further fry for a while. Add finely chopped tomatoes and saute till it forms in to a semi solid lump. Add spice powders and cooked dal. Add salt to taste and bring to boil. Remove from flame. Garnish with coriander leaves. This dal can be served with chapathis and phulkas.
